Cấu trúc used to

Cấu trúc Used + to

a. Khẳng định:

Hình thức giống nhau ở tất cả các chủ ngữ

Subject + used to + infinitive

Eg:

b. Phủ định:

Subject + did not/ didn’t + use to + infinitive

Eg:

c. Yes/ No question:

Did + Subject + use to + infinitive?

d. Wh-questions

Wh-word + did + Subject + use to + infinitive?

Eg:

  • What did you use to do as a child?
  • Where did he use to go?
  • Why did she use to cry

Cách dùng Used to

a. Used to được dùng để diễn tả 1 thói quen trong quá khứ

Thường là để chỉ sự tương phản với hiện tại, trong trường hợp này không nhất thiết phải dùng trạng từ chỉ thời gian. Eg: – I used to smoke 20 cigarettes a day, but now I don’t smoke. (Tôi từng hút 20 điếu thuốc 1 ngày, nhưng giờ tôi không còn hút nữa.)

– Dick used to smoke heavily, but he stopped smoking two years ago.
(Dick từng nghiện thuốc lá, nhưng anh ấy đã cai thuốc từ 2 năm trước rồi.)

– Anna used to be very slim. Now she’s getting overweight.
(Anna từng rất mảnh mai, nhưng giờ cô ấy lại rất mập.)

– They used to live in Hanoi, but they moved in 1996.
(Họ từng sống ở Hà Nội, nhưng họ đã chuyển đi từ năm 1996.)

b. Phân biệt cấu trúc: Used to và Be used to

Used to + bare-infinitive Be used to + gerund/ noun
Cách dùng Chỉ một thói quen hay việc làm thường xuyên trong quá khứChỉ một việc quen làm ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai
Ví dụ– He used to cry for candies.

(Nó từng khóc đòi kẹo) – We used to get up late.

(Chúng tôi từng thức dạy muộn)

– We are used to the noise from the factory. (Chúng tôi quen với tiếng ồn từ nhà máy.) – Are you used to driving on the left hand side?

(Bạn có quen với việc lái xe bên trái không?)

Lưu ý:

Be used to + gerund/ noun = Get used to + gerund/ noun
