Is it good or bad for those places? Well, I guess it can be both good and bad for them. On the one hand, the generated income can make up a significant proportion of private, local and national income. Tourism provides much-needed employment for local people, incentives for investment in infrastructure such as roads, rail networks, local medical and education facilities and a chance for the locality to show itself off and raise its profile in the world. However, a huge influx of visitors may deplete the beauty, uniqueness, character, environment, resources and social cohesion of a tourist destination over time. So, that’s just the luck of the draw, to my mind.
