Well, I think there are quite a few situations when arriving early may be impolite, uncomfortable or even embarrassing. If we consider work situations, I guess it’s not that good to arrive early at out-of-office and inter-office meetings because in the former case, once you arrive, the person you’ll be meeting will feel the need or even the pressure to stop what they are doing to pay attention to you, and in the latter case, it might send a signal that you don’t have much on your to-do list. As far as off-work situations are concerned, I think it’s not good to arrive early at parties and meals at home as it will prevent the host or hostess to take care of all the last-minute details such as lighting candles or setting out food and beverages, and at all kinds of social and civic-group meetings as it might make the host feel the need to entertain you before the gathering, which may break their personal plans for this time period.
